Ethiopian Rectors visit S2BMRC in MUAS

August 17, 2017

A group of Ethiopian Rectors and Presidents visited Münster University of Applied Sciences (MUAS) as part of the HELM Programme (Higher Education Leadership and Management Programme). This delegation was the third group of Ethiopia’s Universities which visited S2BMRC and MUAS. Prior to this workshop already two groups came to see the Centre and to adapt knowledge in the field:

  • 12.1.2017: Vice Presidents for Research and Community Service

  • 9.3.2017: Deans, Academics and Researchers from Engineering Sciences

The “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit” (GIZ) initiated the programme to the Ethiopian Ministry of Education through its Sustainable Training and Education Programme (STEP).

Firstly the members of the delegation showed high interest in the construction and the business models of the S2B Research Centre and its vision and further development. The presidents commented on the Centre’s uniqueness in Europe and highly recognised its achievements and its leadership in the field.
Grounding on this Professor Baaken delivered two sessions as workshops:

1. “The Science-to-Business Marketing Approach” and its strategies and tools

This session was dealing with Market Analysis in Scientific Markets, New Business Models in Science Marketing, the Triple and Quadruple Helix Concept, the Tool-Box of S2B including the “Business Potential Canvas” developed by the S2BMRC and validated in many consulting projects with Universities in the World.

2. “A Report on the State of University Business Cooperation on Europe”

In this session results from the 2010/11 (6,280 Interviews in HEIs) and 2016/17 (17,431 Interviews in HEIs and SMEs) surveys, the S2BMRC has conducted for the European Commission, have been presented and discussed. Eight respectively 10 ways of UBC have been identified and the UBC ECO-System was presented. The participants found it interesting but convincing that “Barriers” only rank low, but Drivers and Motivators high in UBC. Thus Drivers overcame Barriers ones they are strong enough.

The delegation showed interest in continuing the relationship with S2BMRC.
